Volunteer

FISH Volunteers in the food pantry and clothes closet, performing typical tasks

How Can I Volunteer?

If you are interested in helping neighbors in need, we have a variety of volunteer positions in both the Pantry and the Clothes Closet. Most positions require some training and a commitment to regularly-scheduled service. New volunteers commit to serve one day per month (such as the 1st Tuesday, or 3rd Friday of each month) or may prefer one day per week.  Volunteers must be at least 18 years old.

Food Pantry

Typical roles in the Pantry are greeting clients at the reception desk, taking grocery orders, filling orders, accepting donations, and re-stocking shelves.

To Apply:

Print the Volunteer Application Form, complete it, then either scan and email it to Martha Buell, Volunteer Coordinator at mtonka@cox.net or deliver/mail it to FISH, 312 Second Street, Williamsburg, VA,  23185.

Clothes Closet

Typical opportunities in the Clothes Closet (for clothing and housewares) are inspecting, sorting, sizing, folding, labeling, and storing. Some volunteers launder and mend. Volunteers may also assist clients in selecting clothing and household items.
